LOS GRINGOS  Salsa / Latin Jazz of Toledo, Ohio was first formed in November 2006 and is dedicated to Performing the Latin American music traditions of Tito Puente, Marvin Santiago, Frankie Ruiz, Eddie Palmieri and other great "Latin Kings".  Conductor and arranger Brad Sharp assembled these NW Ohio & SE Michigan musicians with the intent of exploring Latin music in all its richness and complexity.  To the musicians of Los Gringos the music of Latin America is full of rhythmic energy, vitality and intricacy.  Studying and performing this music is a rewarding challenge for the musician and provides an authentic Latin American music experience for the listener.

Our name, Los Gringos, came about as a result of a realization; far North Americans (Gringos to some) striving to understand and perform traditional Latin America salsa and Latin Jazz.  Our name is used out of respect for Latin Americans and Latin American music

The instrumentation of Los Gringos is one of tradition in Latin American big band salsa; 3 percussionists (congas, timbales, bongos), 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, baritone saxophone, bass, piano and vocalists.  Although traditional Latin America bands utilize ensembles of differing sizes, the instrumentation of Los Gringos is most widely used in the salsa traditions of the great Latin music kings and gives the audience a powerful and authentic big band salsa experience.

The conga, timbale, guiro, and claves are key percussion instruments and rhythmic concepts to this unique sound.  But, truly, at the heart of salsa and Latin Jazz is the dancing.  With 13 musicians, Los Gringos can give you a true big band salsa sound.  The newest addition to our ensemble is singer Maryori Rios & multi talented Mr. Tony Rios. His experience in performing Latino music in the Midwest is extensive and shows an understanding of the rich and powerful history of the music.

Latin American music is more popular than ever, and Los Gringos will bring you the very best that salsa and Latin Jazz has to offer in the Midwest. Contact us on how to have Tony Rios y Los Gringos at your next party!
